The Waterers project was created to bring together local wisdom keepers and elders, giving them a platform to share their knowledge and life experiences. For this project, I had the honor of working with Bobby Nabors, an elder whose presence and wonderful music have shaped the Saint Paul community in many ways.
I spent time with Bobby, following his daily routines and capturing moments through my camera. Over time, we built a rapport, and eventually, Bobby agreed to sit down for an interview. In our conversation, Bobby shared not only his rich life journey but also his wisdom, which spans across personal experiences and his long-standing passion for playing the saxophone.
Through this project, I aim to preserve the stories and teachings of elders like Bobby, offering future generations the opportunity to learn from their unique perspectives.
Bobby’s favorite word, Nuanaarpoq, is an Inuit term meaning "to take inordinate pleasure in the extravagant joy of being alive." It captured his vibrant spirit and outlook on life perfectly, making it the ideal title for the project. Nuanaarpoq embodies the essence of the journey—celebrating the joy and wisdom of living fully.
